Gustbuster Umbrellas - Models & Reviews

If you can handle heavy rain and 55 MPH wind gusts, so should your umbrella!

As we stated on the home page, Gustbuster umbrellas are one of the most practical windproof umbrellas on the market that come as close to being reasonably "windproof" as possible.

Not many wind umbrellas out there can make such claims as being able to tackle 55 mile-per-hour wind gusts, nor do they have actual video to prove it.

Below are the Four Main Types & Models that are offered. Please browse these helpful gustbuster umbrella reviews.

#1 The Gustbuster Golf Umbrella

These golf umbrellas are the Number One choice umbrella on the PGA Tour. There are 2 sizes; 62'' Inches and the huge 68'' Inch models.

Each umbrella opens and closes manually and locks firmly in place whether opened or closed. They come in many different styles and colors and do not have any metal parts that could attract lightning.

Instead, they are build of what seems like strong graphite spokes, similar to the material used to make fishing rods, only more rigid. This construction along with the wind vents make these large golf umbrellas one of the most reliable windproof umbrellas on the market.

They come in many style and color choices for both men and women and provide suitable cover for two people.

We just wished these Gustbuster golf umbrellas offered an automatic open version and were more available throughout the Net!

#2 The Gustbuster Classic Stick Wind Umbrella

This 48" Inch umbrella is the perfect size for a single person, is very light, and has a convenient wooden J-handle that makes it both easy to use, hold, and hang in various places as a temporary stand/holder.

The umbrellas provides good cover for an average-sized person but is not too large where folks have to play "umbrella chicken" with others when walking down a busy sidewalk.

One thing to mention is that while the outer spokes are made from the same graphite (or fiberglass) material found on the golf umbrellas, the inner spokes that attach to the main frame are made of metal.

However, this product feels strong and can tackle high winds without any problems. On Amazon.com it receives many positive 4 and 5 star reviews in the customer feedback section with just a few little negative remarks.

For around $40 dollars, it is the last umbrella you may have to buy and will last for years with good care. The only drawback is that there are limited color choices with these Gustbuster umbrella models. Currently, only Black, Navy Blue, Hunter Green, and Pink are available.

While the plastic tip of the umbrella could use some improvement, overall, we love the light-weight design and the easy automatic opening mechanism (available in manual also).

#3 The Gustbuster Metro Umbrella

Perfect for lightweight travel is the Metro Gustbuster. It has both an available auto open and manual open design, is small enough to fit in a large briefcase or messenger bag, and has an adjustable shoulder strap case for hands free traveling.

Granted this model has lesser overall quality than the other Gustbuster umbrellas reviewed on this page, and may be too small for covering larger folks, it is still nice to have for those pop up summer thunderstorms that turn traditional umbrellas inside out.

Like the Classic Style umbrellas, the Metro is available in basic color choices, but we have seen some other style designs also.

These umbrellas make great gifts and also have earned a majority of positive customer feedback. There are more dislikes with this model though over the Classic Stick umbrella, mainly about the poor quality construction which in our opinion is not all that terrible and is still better than the quality of a $5 dollar umbrella...and this one is wind proof.

#4 The Sunblok Gustbuster

Another model to consider is the Sunblok umbrella.

It has the same features and construction as the large golf umbrellas, comes in either 58'' Inch or 68" Inch sizes, and consists of a special silver fabric that reflects and shields the user from harmful UV rays along with holding strong in heavy wind gusts while at the beach.

It is also reported that the temperature under the umbrella is up to ten degrees cooler than the surrounding area.

What Makes a Gustbuster Different?

The Gustbuster umbrella has a unique patented double canopy design that works it two ways.

The first is that the upper canopy consists of large rain-drop-shaped wind vents that allow air to flow through and out the sides of the umbrella, but this is not everything.

The second part of the design is the elastic straps that connect the upper level to each of the outer fiberglass spokes which are mounted on the lower canopy and main frame. What this does is allow the upper canopy to stretch upwards when heavy winds get under it reducing the chance of the umbrella to flip inside out.

The frame of the product is strong and works very well in light to moderate winds. The umbrella just seems to "float" in midair as the wind vents go to work.

However, in strong winds it may be a bit challenging to hold on to, but is quite impressive and holds true to its gust-busting claims. Just be sure you have a firm grip!

As a quick note, we found the overall quality of both the Classic Stick Style and larger golf umbrellas along with the Sunblok model to be better than the Metro. To conclude, for what they are priced at we believe that these windproof umbrellas are the best buy for the money.

They blow away the competition and will last for years with proper care.

Also please note that exposing these umbrellas to wind gusts over the advertised 55 mile-per-hour capacity may cause the umbrella to invert and/or be destroyed.
